This Circle works closely with educators at York University and in the community to forward our shared values and goals.
Current activities:
AMPD Creative Technologies Program, Markham Campus, York University, supported by the York University Academic Innovation Fund.
Advised by the Indigenous Advisory Circle, the Creative Technologies projects are partnering on experiential education courses with the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design, at the brand new York campus at Markham.
A public campus event with partner organization Moccasin Identifier is booked for Oct 21, 2024 on Markham campus (which will generate moccasin stencils to be used in classes and allow partner community organizations to visit the campus to plan a longer-term installation). Students from the Markham class Fundamentals of Collaboration (CRTE1200) will participate in the event.
Consultations and class plans are in progress for two experiential education classes: during the Winter term, CRTE1400 Experiential Education1 (creating AR stories with communities using moccasin stencils while learning about treaties) with contributions from the partners, and during the Spring term, CRTE2400 Land Based Art and Technology (working on an AR public art project and technology focused land-based learning with community partners). The Spring class will be a special land-based learning intensive held off-campus, led by Rebecca Caines, Dustin Brass, and partners.
Planning is also in progress for partnered Indigenous game design camps, and community workshops as part of the Biskaabiiyaang project (see Partnered Projects).
